Tree Risk Assessment

Not sure about your tree’s health? Contemplating whether you need tree removal, pruning or other tree services? Contact our Edmonton division today for a free estimate, we’ll help you identify your tree and perform a risk assessment on your tree of concern or any other trees on your property. Healthy trees are happy trees and a simple risk assessment can go a long way.

Our professional team will evaluate and determine what tree care service best suits your tree’s situation. Our Edmonton arborists may suggest tree removal for a more serious hazard or a simple prune to promote a tree’s health.

A tree risk assessment is the first step of tree care. An arborist will take into account the location, health, species and immediate hazard your tree or trees may pose. Trust the professionals to evaluate all your tree care needs.

Tree Species

The first step in a tree risk assessment is to determine what type of tree you have on your property. Different species of trees may determine the types of tree service you’ll require. In Edmonton, certain trees may require different types of pruning or care.

Some trees can or should only be pruned during specific times of year. Most trees benefit from pruning during the winter / early spring when they are dormant. Elm trees can only be pruned from October 1st till March 31st to prevent any possible spread of DED (Dutch Elm Disease). Elm trees may be removed at any time during the year. Stump grinding must be performed and the wood chipped and disposed of properly. Clients can not keep any elm wood as per Alberta legislation.

Does your tree have a fungal infection? The most common fungal infection seen in the Edmonton area is black knot. This can be found on most Prunus family trees. 9 times out of 10 if you have a Prunus family tree such as a chokecherry or mayday tree it most likely has the black knot fungus growing on its limbs. This infection can be mitigated by pruning your tree but can never truly be cured. If the tree is pruned often and the black knot mitigated your tree can survive and thrive for years to come. The goal is to continuously prune out the fungi before it reaches the trunk of the tree.

Every species of tree comes with its own risk. Whether the risk is infection or structural, no matter how many trees you have, our professional arborists will always do what’s best for you and your trees on your property.
